STANDING SELF-PORTRAIT AS A VIOLENT YOUNG MAN AND

AS A GENTLE YOUNG MAN (AFTER LEONARD MCCOMB)

2014

100 x 120 x 8 cm

Plaster

This piece re-works a sculpture by Leonard McComb in the Tate collection, which explores the multiple and often contradictory facets of a person’s character. Adrian’s version superficially looks like two separate relief sculptures that mirror each other. Closer inspection reveals, however, that he has actually trimmed a hand o two identical casts of a self-portrait, presenting us with a violent and a gentle version of himself.
